Overland Tours in Nairobi (Kenya) with Absolute Africa

From Nairobi to Livingstone. Visiting the Masai Mara - renown for its seasonal migration of vast herds of wildebeest and zebra, Nakuru National Park, the grassy plains of Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, as well as Nairobi's elephant orphanage and giraffe park.

Experience local cultures with a visit to a Maasai village, a traditional meal in a Malawian village or by joining the childen for a tour of their school or a game of football. Unwind on the magical beaches of Zanzibar, tour historical Stonetown, visit Jozani forest to see the red colobus monkeys, or scuba diving on Mnemba Atoll.

Do a night game-drive in Zambia's South Luangwa National Park (seasonal) to spot Africas most elusive feline - the leopard, and to witness some of the antics of the comical genet.

We end this safari in Livingstone where the mighty Zambezi plummets 100 meters at the Victoria Falls. Wander through the lush rainforsts of the mighty "Mosi Oa Tunya" (The Smoke that Thunders) and enjoy the many adventure sports on offer - whitewater rafting, a "flight of the angels" over the falls, sky diving, bungee jumping, rhino trekking, elephant rides, walking with lions, canoeing and sunset cruises on the upper Zambezi.

   Itinerary & Highlights

  Kenya - Tanzania
Days 1 - 18
We meet you in Nairobi to head up country through the dramatic scenery of the Rift Valley to camp at Kembu farm. The following day we are off on safari on our first game drives in Nakuru. Nakuru is a national park centred around a soda lake, the home of flocks of greater and lesser pink flamingo that feed on algae and crustaceans in the lake. The park is also a sanctuary for black and white rhino, and has Rothschild's giraffe, hippo, waterbuck and buffalo as well as lion and leopard.

Our next stop is the papyrus fringed Lake Naivasha. From here we cycle into Ol Njorowa Gorge in Hells Gate National Park surrounded by evidence of recent past volcanic history in the region - steam jets, hot springs and high volcanic plugs rising out of the valley floor. Game congregates at the waterholes where we can watch zebra, gazelle and hartebeest. In the months when the migration is in the Masai Mara we then travel through the Mara's vast gassy plains. The migrating herds of wildebeest, Thomson's gazelle and zebra travel to and fro between the Mara and the Serengeti and lions are often seen following the herds. We camp in the conservancy surrounded by game.

We then visit a traditional Maasai village and return to Nairobi for a night out. A visit to Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage to find out about the intensive care of the baby elephants is our next highlight and then to The Giraffe Park where we can hand feed giraffe.

Into Tanzania we are again off on safari into two more of Africa's famous parks - the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater - before travelling past the foot of Kilimanjaro. We then head to the coast to cross over by ferry to magical Zanzibar Island for four days to unwind on the palm fringed white beaches. Scuba dive, snorkel with the dolphins and visit the giant tortoise on Prison Island.

Optionals: Elsamere for afternoon tea, Four days on Zanzibar island visiting Stone Town, Prison Island, scuba diving, snorkelling, swimming with the dolphins, viewing the red colobus monkeys and other activities such as a spice tour..

Tanzania - Malawi - Zambia
Days 19 - 29
It is a fascinating and stunning drive through southern Tanzania's Mikumi National Park, Baobab Valley and into the mountainous regions of the southern Rift Valley, the altitude giving cool relief after the heat of the Indian Ocean coast.

We arrive in Malawi to visit a local village, barter in the famous carving markets and enjoy a beach barbecue. A meal is provided by a local village and a warm welcome is extended by the village children to visit their school. Staying by the lake we can relax for a day and enjoy water sports - canoeing, snorkelling and scuba diving. Horse riding in and by the lake is popular as well.

On departures between June and September we now visit South Luangwa National Park, one of southern Africa's most wild and beautiful game parks, whilst conditions are good in the park. In season the park allows viewing of all the game you would want to see including elephant and lion. Evening game drives are arranged here as well with a good chance of seeing leopard and the Campsites are also always a treat including the visits from resident elephants

Optionals: Water sports, horse riding, village walk and school visit, plateau walk.

Zambia
Days 29 - 37
We travel through Zambia to Lake Kariba where we relax on a houseboat for 2 day, enjoying a break from camping. The boats have bedrooms, a swimming cage (so we are protected from the crocs!) and a splash pool. Our meals are also prepared for us by the houseboat crew. Fishing in the lake is popular particularly for the ferocious tiger fish.

We arrive at the Victoria Falls where the mighty Zambezi plummets 100 metres over the gorge to enjoy our last four days together at our final destination. We can wander the lush rainforest by the Falls, enjoy a walk with habituated lion, trek rhino, shop in the local markets, take afternoon tea at the Victoria Falls Hotel, visit a local township and enjoy the many activities on offer - rhino trekking, white water rafting, bunji jumping, Flights of the Angels, sky diving and an evening sunset cruise on the Zambezi.

Optionals: Houseboat on Lake Kariba, lion walks, rhino trek, elephant rides, white water rafting, bungee jump, Flight of the Angels, sunset cruise, interactive drumming, township tour, canoe excursions, horse rides and many other activities at the Falls.
