     Rafting the Tamur - Nepal

Whitewater Rafting in Kathmandu (Nepal) with Get Wet The Adventure Company Ltd

The Tamur river and it's tributaries drain the snows off Kanchenjunga, the Worlds third highest peak. The river itself is the sixth largest river in Nepal. Our expedition will set off by plane from Kathmandu to Biratnagar where we will drive to Basantapur. Basantapur marks the true start of our expedition.

Rafting the Tamur means the undertaking of a porter supported three day trek along a ridge line full of rhododendron forests and sunlit meadows. We will summate onto the ridge at 3000 meters with exhilarating views of Makalu, Everest and Kanchenjunga, before descending through emerald and golden terraced fields of rice and mustard to Dobhan.

At Dobhan it will be time to say good bye to our porters, change from our trekking kit into our rafting kit and get on the river itself. The power of three tributaries joining forces gives the Tamur plenty of power to help us paddle our rafts downstream. 120 rapids in 120 km makes rafting the Tamur River better than a thrill a minute roller coaster.

Whilst camping at night we get the chance to meet and enjoy the colorful traditions of the local tribes, maybe try their traditional fermented millet drink, tungba, the brewing of which they have perfected to a fine art.

The best section of white water comes in last few days, when the river turns back to the West and becomes steep and powerful, with towering waves leaping skyward and water shooting through canyons like an Olympic bobsled! The river calms before cascading out into the Sun Kosi and eventually onwards to the sea.

After taking off the river in Chatra we will take a bus to Biratnagar where we will fly back to Kathmandu in time for tea and Medals.
